    Description

In my high school, Mary Maguire, Chris Siano and their chosen minions were the “mean girls,” whose goal it was to make sure a lot of girls would forever have a bitter memory of their high school experience. Luckily, there were also the antithesis of mean girls, nice girls who managed to achieve their goals AND be kind, helpful and encouraging to their fellow girlkind. In Barbie’s world, a group of nice girls kept their eyes on the prize, earning scholarships to attend a private girls’ boarding school that offers college-level curriculum courses as well as an interesting variety of extracurricular activities. These are their stories.
THIS auction is for calculus major Veronica Stanton, nicknamed “Abacus” She IS included with the outfit. She is part of the traditional generation of Barbie dolls—full bustline and slender waist and hips. She has blond crimped hair and blue eyes, likely “born” in the late 80’s. Veronica readily admits that she wasn’t always good at math. As a child, she was a familiar face in around the beauty pageant circuit, poise and likeability more important than addition and subtraction. Math’s importance in her life asserted itself when she began selling her homemade cookies, cakes and fudge. In order to price for profit, she needed to calculate the cost of the various ingredients to determine a price-per-cookie formula and decide on volume discounts and what her profit margin should be. Her working-class parents weren’t able to help, so she approached a math instructor at the middle school, and she took Veronica under her wing, guiding her along the math journey through Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II and eventually calculus. Veronica never looked back and plans to major in Accounting in college. To get around campus, Veronica is easily spotted in her spark-emitting in-line skates and she plays on the girls’ hockey team. To help other child who struggle with math as she once did, Veronica’s Face Book page offers free math tutoring and has made a number of You Tube tutorial videos in which she shares some of the tricks she learned along the way to make the numbers fall into place.
