    Description

In my high school, Mary Maguire, Chris Siano and their chosen minions were the “mean girls,” whose goal it was to make sure a lot of girls would forever have a bitter memory of their high school experience. Luckily, there were also the antithesis of mean girls, nice girls who managed to achieve their goals AND be kind, helpful and encouraging to their fellow girlkind. In Barbie’s world, a group of nice girls kept their eyes on the prize, earning scholarships to attend a private girls’ boarding school that offers college-level curriculum courses as well as an interesting variety of extracurricular activities. These are their stories.
THIS auction is for mycology major Consuelo Flores, nicknamed “Truffles.” She IS included with the outfit. She is part of the modern Barbie generation—flat feet, modest bustline, broader hips. She has long brown hair and brown eyes. “Consuelo” means “comfort” or “solace” in Spanish. Her mother chose the name when Consuelo was born while her parents and two older siblings were being detained as illegal aliens. The family had fled El Salvador in search of the American Dream. The dream turned into a nightmare when “La Migra” raided the camp where Consuelo’s family was staying, her father
supporting the family doing day jobs at local farms and construction sites. Luckily, the Catholic church that the family had been attending offered to sponsor the family and help them procure the magical Green Cards that would allow them to remain in the country. Consuelo’s fascination with fungi began when she discovered various molds and fungi growing in and around the family’s home. Edible mushrooms in the area provided a gourmet touch to the family's meager dinner table. Besides her studies, Consuelo delights in underwater photography, her diving equipment and camera a thrift store find. On the weekend, you can find her working as a volunteer at the Center for the Homeless, helping other displaced persons to survive until they can get back on their feet.
Her senior quote: “Advice is like mushrooms. The wrong kind can prove fatal.”  –Charles E. McKenzie
For her senior picture, she is wearing a faux denim skirt with a white floral motif paired with a semi-sheer burgundy blouse worn under a (Barbie label) clear jacket with Barbie’s initials BMR breaking up the transparency. Her 23 accessories include: white high top tennies, (new) white crocheted beret, a white grosgrain ribbon purse with a white bow, a denim-look tote with white stitching and a white floral embellishment, a chain belt with arabesque closure, burgundy beaded bracelet and matching hoop-style earrings, white cat-eye sunglasses, mycology textbook, “Fungi” magazine, composition notebook, student I.D. card with her photo, cell phone with mushroom cover, credit card, cash, pink comb, tissue pack, SCUBA tank, fins and mask w/ snorkel, apple chips snack pack, an underwater camera, and a mushrooms poster for her dorm room.
All the clothing has been freshly laundered and mended if necessary. Unless noted as new, assume the clothing pieces saw some play time before I acquired them for this Nice Girls fashion project.
