“Five Hundred Tugrik”
note from the least densely populated nation on Earth,
“Mongolia”
. The nation is located between Russia on the north and China to the south. It covers an area of 603,909 square miles and has a population of just 3.3 million.
Mongolia is famed as the birthplace of the world’s greatest conqueror,
“Temüjin”
or, as he is better known.
“Genghis Khan”
, pictured on the note. In 1206 AD he founded the
“Mongol Empire”
and went on to conquer more of the earth’s surface than anyone else ever has.
A lesser-known fact about Genghis Khan is that he introduced the first paper money. He used a very simple tactic to be sure it was widely accepted. You either took it as payment or you died.
